Signs of jealousy are not hard to discern if you really understand what it is about. Jealousy can be a very destructive emotion. It can form rifts in relationships, whether at a romantic level, between friends, in the workplace and even among people who are just casual acquaintances.

Learning to identify the signs of jealousy whether you are the one being jealous or the jealousy is directed at you is very important to maintaining healthy relationships. So what are some real troubling and even dangerous signs of jealousy?

Signs of Jealousy – Three Red Flags

- Having or entertaining highly irrational and intense feelings that about your partner’s relationship with someone else that amount to a lack of trust or suspicions.

- Feeling that someone else is being given more attention than you are receiving in a relationship to the extent that your position in that relationship feel threatened.

- Always feeling suspicious when your partner is in the company of someone else for no apparent reason at all.

Jealousy at its core is really about insecurity. Now that insecurity can be justified or not. But in any case it means that if you are feeling jealous there is a lot of insecurity going on with you.

If you can recognize the main signs of jealousy then you have a good chance of dealing with jealousy competently. Signs of jealousy does not mean there is anything to be ashamed of. It is natural to feel insecure in a relationship given certain factors. And that relationship can be romantic or platonic.

Effectively dealing with jealousy means recognizing the signs early on and confronting the underlying reasons or causes. This is because the actual signs of jealousy can give you a good indication of what is really going on and get you focused on what is the real issue you need to deal with.

Using Signs of Jealousy To Define The Issue

Is the sign of jealousy mainly about you or someone else always feeling suspicious? Then most likely it is an issue of trust and you need to work on building trust in that relationship.

Is the sign of jealousy about you being uncomfortable with your partner’s interaction with someone else? That could be also trust or could also be a red flag that your partner is insensitive or even straying. Or if there is really no rationale to your feelings, it could be a bit of delusional jealousy.

Is the sign of jealousy about someone being given more attention than you? It could be an issue of disconnect in the relationship. Of course it depends on what type of relationship we are talking about here. A relationship with a friend would probably take a different approach than say a romantic relationship. Nevertheless signs of jealousy of this nature could still be about not enough connectedness in the relationship.

Signs of jealousy are not of themselves dangerous. What is dangerous is not dealing with the underlying issues that is resulting in the jealousy. When you see dangerous signs of jealousy it is time to get help and deal with the issues without delay.
