Anxiety disorders affect approximately 18% of the US polulation over 18 years old. That is
over 40 million people. Or put another way, almost one out of every five adults in the US.
Anxiety disorders play havoc with all aspects of our lives – directly and indirectly.
They affect us socially, professionally, financially and of course our health.
People with anxiety disorders tend to visit the doctor more often. Sometimes for real
complaints, other times for things that they just fear are happening.
Though there are different types of disorders, the very good news is that each disorder
do have at least one treatment protocol that actually works.
The more well known type of anxiety disorders are:
- Panic Disorder
Characterized by sudden panic attacks resulting in feelings of terror for no reason.
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Characterized by excessive or unrealistic anxiety and worry beyond what is considered to be appropriate.
- Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
An intense fear of being scrutinized and negatively judged by others in a social setting.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts and/or repetitive behaviors.
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
This one normally occurs after experiencing a traumatic event that is perceived as horrible
and extremely shocking.
